Since 1997, the Catholic Church has allowed cremation of our earthly remains as long as the cremation was not a denial of the teaching of the resurrection of the dead. By placing the remains immediately in a columbarium, the soul is provided a holy and dignified option in Catholic burial. Additionally, as our faith community has become more conscious of our need to mitigate our impact on the environment, cremation has become a more acceptable option.
